The side-by-side two-place launching IS-28M2 (now redesignated IAR-34), which first flew in 1976, was developed from the tandem two-place IS- 28 M1. The rear fuselage, tailplane and wings are similar to the IS-28B2 glider. Approach control is by upper and lower surface Hutter type airbrakes. The Limbach engine drives an adjustable pitch Hoffmann fully featering propeller. The gear partially retracts aft into the stub center section. Top-surface airbrakes and camber-changing flaps (+15 to –11) are provided, as are full dual controls. The 28M2A model has strengthened wings. The IS 28M2 has been developed into the Rotax powered 11.58 m. /38.0 ft. span IAR-46 light aircraft, which has a 17 m. extended wing sailplane variant. ATC
